How to move the catalog
- Export the productsIn the Shopify admin open Products → Export, choose All products and the CSV for Excel or Plain CSV file format, then click Export products. Shopify gives you the file right away or emails it.
- Upload the fileIn Shopiforge — “Catalog” → “Import” → “New import”, choose the file. The format is detected as “Shopify”, and the columns are mapped automatically.
- Check and runGo through the wizard steps — the defaults are usually enough — and see what will be created at the “Check” step. The steps are described in “Product import”.
What is transferred
- Products: name, description, brand (Vendor), tags, SKU and barcodes.
- Variants: every Shopify variant becomes a separate product in a variant group, and the Shopify options (Size, Color) become the group’s options. A product without options is imported as a single product.
- Prices: Price becomes the price, Compare-at price the old price.
- Stock — if the Shopify store has one location. An export from a store with several locations has no stock column, and stock in Shopiforge stays as it is.
- Categories: the product type (Type) becomes a category.
- Photos — by links, the import downloads them to the media library. The product’s photos go to the first variant, and the others take them from it unless a variant has its own.
- SEO title and SEO description go to the meta title and meta description.
- Status (active, draft, archived) is applied to new products if “Review before publishing” is off at the “Settings” step.
What isn’t transferred
Customers, orders, reviews, collections, stock per location and metafields. The Shopify product export has no translations: texts are written in the store’s main language.
Repeat upload
Upload a fresh export into the same source — the same products are updated instead of new ones being created: a variant is recognized by its handle and option values. New variants are added to the group that’s already assembled.
